Intentional Community Forming in Costa Rica

This is just to inform you that we are starting to put together our core group for a Costa Rican intentional community.

The plan is simple. Since getting the right people together is the most difficult part in forming a community, we have decided to do this by starting a “gateway starter community” here in the metropolitan area of greater San Jose.

We will start with renting a large house, and renting out rooms to singles in that house to form sort of a core group.

Couples and families are welcome to relocate close to our Community Center, so that they can participate in community activities easily. It would be ideal for their rental locations to all be within walking distance to the CC, but if they can't find suitable housing close by, they will have to find something elsewhere as close as possible.

We plan to have community activities, including a food service, in the community center most days of the week.

Personality conflicts and problems have sunk many potentially promising projects here in Costa Rica and around the world over the years. By renting near a CC, both the community members and the new perspective members will get a chance to “try each other out” for compatibility before any large financial commitments have been made.

Once this core group grows big enough to reach a critical mass of compatible people, those who wish to move on to help purchase or work on a location in the countryside will be given that chance to. Ideally, we will form a whole cluster of self sustaining intentional communities starting with this starter community.

We need to start doing this immediately before the ongoing worldwide financial crisis makes such things impossible.
